A potato washer and peeler is a piece of industrial food processing equipment designed to automate the processing of potatoes (and other root vegetables), significantly improving the efficiency of subsequent processing.
How it works: Instead of a rough abrasive surface, a drum or internal mechanism is lined with hundreds of tough, durable nylon or plastic brushes. These brushes scrub the surface of the potatoes to remove the peel.
Process: The process is similar to that of a grinder and peeler, but uses brushes for scrubbing. Continuous rinsing with water spray is also used. Best suited for: Large-scale industrial processing, delicate potatoes, and applications requiring minimal pulp loss and a smooth, polished surface (for example, pre-peeled packaged potatoes or high-quality frozen French fries). These peelers typically have low peel loss.
Potato washers and peelers are not limited to potatoes; they can be used on a variety of fruits and vegetables, including:
Root vegetables: potatoes, carrots, ginger, sweet potatoes, beets, turnips.
Other agricultural products: cassava, radish, onions (peeled), lotus roots.
